Following the Reefscape Kickoff, the BEAST Robotics Team has been working diligently on prototypes, fieldwork, and having fun! Despite below freezing temperatures and icy streets, our season is off to a great start!
Our subteams are working together to create prototypes and test them on the field. The Mechanical Team is using CAD to brainstorm various mechanisms. This information is communicated to the Software Team, so they can begin writing programs to control them.
The Mechanical Team created two prototypes to test different parts of the game. One prototype intakes Coral game pieces and moves them using compliant wheels. We utilized a lift from our 2018 robot for testing. Although the prototype is in its early stages, the prototype marks a big step in our progress toward a final product. The second prototype allows our robot to climb on the Cage that hangs from the Barge. Progress has been made on our working robot, as well. The chassis design is complete, and parts are in fabrication.
The Electrical Team started wiring the chassis for power, and they split into different groups to tackle specific projects. The Electrical Team Leads and Veterans have been extremely helpful to the Rookies by guiding them through the various robot functions.
The Strategy Team has been working to develop our Reefscape scouting app. They met with the Drive Team to prioritize which game actions to scout, and they are designing app prototypes to test when we scrimmage.
The Business Team is working on the IMPACT Award process: refining details in the Executive Summary, refreshing the 10,000 character Essay, and creating an exciting IMPACT Video! In addition, they have closed the 23’-24’ chapter of the fiscal year, wrapping up our finances, and creating our budget for this year!
Following the end of the first semester, the Field Team converted our half field into our full field! We have a shared space, and different classes are held there throughout the year. The full field will allow us to hold drive practice and invite other FRC teams to practice, as well.
Dean’s List Semi-finalists
BEAST is excited to announce our two Dean’s List Semi-finalists…drumroll, please…Ben Grogan and Siri Jonnada! These two student leaders exemplify the mission of FIRST. We look forward to cheering them on and watching them advance!
Ben Grogan has been a valuable member of our team for three years. As Programming Lead, Ben brings BEAST’s robots to life! He is also a great leader who teaches his skills to newer team members. Off the field, he volunteers for outreach events such as STEM Camp and oodles of robot demonstrations.
For three years, Siri Jonnada has been an indispensable teammate. She leads the Business Team, spearheading awards applications, sponsor interactions, and outreach events. Speaking of outreach, Siri helped start an FLL club at Brookfield Elementary and a STEAM Club for middle school students.
